Josh Samanski, 23, spent the last four years in Straubing to play for the DEL club Tigers and recently signed a contract with Eisbären Berlin in the DEL for the next four seasons. But now sources reported that the German born will make use of his exit clause for the NHL and will join Leon Draisaitl in Edmonton. Josh Samanski is playing for Team Germany (13 international matches) and will play alongside Leon Draisaitl at the Olympics as things stand.
Samanski, who’s father John was born in Ontario, Canada but played 15 years in Germany, will sign a two-year contract with the organization as per BILD, a daily newspaper which is usually very well connected in sports related topics. Furthermore EISBLOG confirmed the rumor and said they have the same information.
Recently Samanski scored 14 goals and helped with 26 assists in the regular season for his team and added 4 points (2 goals) in their 6 playoff games. Despite his young age he played already 193 games in the DEL which is the top league in Germany. In these 193 games he scored 93 points (40 goals).
An interesting fact is that his new contract in Germany does have a clause that he may come back to Berlin if it’s not working out for him or the Oilers in the NHL.
